Big Bad Bow coupler mod Empty Big Bad Bow coupler mod

Post  Roger Explosion Thu Aug 20, 2009 4:19 pm

Doesn't look like any of you here have an intrest in Big Bad Bow's. Why not? Well this simple mod should get you interested.
Unfortunatly, i've been forced to use a diffrent camera after killing mine with a titan. so the images are pretty bad.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod01
So here we are, one Big Bad Bow, fresh from its box. fired once just to make sure it works

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod02
Go and remove the front half of the body.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod03
We want to focus on the barrel.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod04
Pull the barrel off (no glue here, it just pops off) and you're greeted to the air restrictor assembly. you won't need the white part in the middle with the orange bit on it or the spring.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod05
Now here's the plunger stop. which is the back part of the Air Restrictor.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod06
    Cut it back like so.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod07
Now take the orignal barrel and cut it off right where it ends

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod08
    like so

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod09
Then take a 15mm Coupler and cut it in half. it removers dead space and also gives you 2 uses in one.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod10
make sure the cut is as straight as possible, or your barrels will be crooked, and you don't want that.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod11
Then glue it to the front of the barrel

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod13
Now we need to get rid of this dead space in the front of this barrel

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod14
cut a 25mm piece of barrel material. it can't be any longer than the ridges in the dead space area, or the plunger will stop too soon.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod17
Hot glue in the front first. through the coupler

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod18
Then fill the dead space area behind all the way up to the ridges. Also i put a bit of insulated copper wire accross the barrel material to stop darts from being sucked into the plunger.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod19
Then stick the white plunger stop part back in.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod20
When it has dried put the barrel back on, and Electrical tape and glue it on for a good seal.

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod21
Put it back toghther, and then electrical tape the coupler to the body of the gun so it dosen't rotate.

    Making the barrel
    --------------------

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod22
    cut
x2 6inch sections of barrel material
    x2 1 inch sections of 15mm PVC
x2 3 inch sections of PVC

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod23
Wrap Electrical tape around one end of the barrel material

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod24
Slip a 1 inch section of PVC on

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod25
and glue and E tape it on. Make sure there is a good seal

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod26
Glue and E tape a 3 inch section in the middle of the barrel

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod27
Repeat above steps, so you have 2

Big Bad Bow coupler mod 3bmod28
Then glue and E tape the 2 barrels together on the PVC

Now you have a speed loader. you can also add more barrels to it if you want

I haven't alot or range testing (because of wind), but i've been getting around 65-70 feet flat.

The plunger in this thing is massive, With a beefier spring i could hope to hit 100 feet.

So, have i piqued anyones intrested in this gun yet?

Nice mod. How about the spring? Can it be replaced? Also, where did you get this beast?

I went and edited the write up, fixing an area of Dead space behind the plunger head, and making a barrel for it

I didn't get a good look at the spring, becasue the back half is glued together, and i couldn't be bothered prying it open. some writeups on Nerf haven have replaced the spring, to great effect.

These badboys need to be imported from the USA.

You must have forked out quite a bit of cash.

How much did you pay for this in total.
