    Project Silicone Empty Project Silicone

    Post  inf0rm3r Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:15 am

Now have the funding to start on some silicone tips.

The MOQ is 25,000 so we will need to be perfect in what we need. The cost of these will hover around 4.5 cents each, which is slightly more than snap caps, however the work required to produce these darts is much less than before. This still means your producing darts for 6-7 cents each which is the cheapest by far considering the quality product your getting.

The idea I currently have is streamline tip and stub, however more heavy at the front closely resembling the weight of a steel shot weighted dart. Streamline entire weight varies from 1.3 - 1.41 grams I'm aiming for 1.7 - 1.8 grams.

Post opinions and ideas here. I intend on making this happen and having them available before December 1. The reason being I don't want this sport banned, so this will phase out all dangerous materials used in darts, all metals, and eventually the snap caps to and those horrible glue darts which don't make us look professional at all.

Cool, been waiting on these for a while now.

Are they multi color like the snap caps or all one color?

Either way I plan to put in a paid order for 2000 of them.

Can you have a collapsible tip? Sort of similar to the streamline though with 2 holes like the titan missile to assist in straighter flights?

    Put me down for 1000,
As for weight if you could make them slightly heavier then the current snap caps+glue that would, in my opinion, be ideal.

Yup these are roughly 1g, so it will nearly be double.

Any chance of seeing what they look like finished product? Has peaked my interest with the description of the similarities to Streamlines...

It will visually be the same as a streamline, except filled in at the front, no holes and the stub will be slightly thinner. The important thing to remember the weight is the issue.

What size would the foam have to be cut to make the best dart?

When they are done are you going to have them at wars, E.g dart hire? so we eradicate snap caps. Also would you sell them at wars like you do with blue foam as i will defiantly buy some but not 1000. Basically what i am asking is this isnt going to be an Oznerf, over the internet only deal?

I've posted them samples, so they'll receive them in about 3-4 days, then we'll work out a price, I negociate pretty hard so sometimes that can take up to a week. Production will take roughly a week as shipping will also. So probably one month.

The first order will be most likely a single colour, unless your willing to purchase 10,000 to meet the MOQ for your selection. Once I build a better relationship with my supplier I'll supply more.

Pick a color that makes it easier to find in the grass -_-

Yeah defs. I would prefer red and blue or orange and blue. I think black tips may look like they're more dangerous... hahaha. The more fluro the better!

I'm with Littlebro, orange and blue looks cool and the orange will make it easy to find it in grassy areas. So wait, these silicone caps will make dart making so much easier, right? Will his rule out having to make domes of hot glue? Is is basicallt the tip of a streamline with the stub on but heavier, so all you have to do is apply a small amount of glue to the stub and push it in? If so this is a breakthrough for stefans. Will we let NerfHaven into these or brag about it?

Orange is actually pretty hard to see with grass. I have found that you will lose more streamlines than blue foam. And yes, these silicone caps will revolutionise stefan making.

They will be basically streamline stubs but heavier yes. And will rule out dome making obviously. They will proabbly cost about 5-7cents a head, but hell, much more convenient.

Would these go further than the current blue foam stephans, less or roughly the same? After samples are made up I might be interested in some, depending on price. Is there a minimum amount that I have to order? Like 1000 or can I order less than that, say about 100-200?

Takes roughly 2 weeks to get the samples there, they've been sent. Snail mail is terrible.

From there I'll tweak it to our preference and then negotiate a price with them. Aiming for end of the month.

This question wasn't answered last time so I'll ask again. Whats the minimum amount of tips I can buy? Also, from what I gather these won't come pre-glued to the foam, so I will have to glue them together myself? Or will they come 'ready-to-use'?

    Tips by themselves.

Minimum order will be couple of hundred or so, it's not worth counting on anything smaller.

You can put me down for 300, if they can't be put into that first order, I suppose I can wait until the second.

    -EDIT-
Could I also get a sample before I buy?

If they have problems with the solidworks model just ask me to create a Catia file.
