Cost estimate?
I would defiantly love to buy 1000 as soon as you get them.
How do you assume we will attach them to the blue foam?
Hot glue?

Re: Project Silicone
Hot Glue will work, but from what I've been told it's just silicone glued into actual darts, but I'm sure we can find something cheap to insert them

Re: Project Silicone
I finally have costing.
The first initial 25,000 will be 0.091 cents each. The cost has been blown out due to an initial 700.00 molding cost and sample fee of 200.00. They have offered me good discounts on continued business so I have been assured once we go through 50,000 we will get pricing as low as 6-7 cents each.
If you break up the current costing:
100 Darts will cost $13.60 to produce which is still much better than Hasbro's offer of $30.00 per 100. This material can be shipped anywhere in Australia for $6.80 regular pricing, so delivered it is still $20.40 to your door.
0.75 x 6 $4.50
0.091 x $9.10
I cannot discount these as I'm literally making half a cent for each one I sell.
samples are in production and due next week early.
If you want darts, please PM as I have a few in production at the moment.

Re: Project Silicone
Looking forward to these.
I didn't see this in the thread, but assuming the 100 darts you used as an example in your previous post are 70 mm overall, I take it the tips are 10 mm long or so? I'll most likely be making shorter darts than that, so a confirmation on the length would be great to help me with my materials estimate.

Re: Project Silicone
The tip head is 6.5mm, with stub 12mm.
If you want to make your darts to a desired length, I sell the foam in 1M Lengths - this is often the preferred method. The 100 darts that I make are stock length, same as streamlines.
The weight is also looking to be around 1.7grams according to my supplier, this can be modified quiet easily to preference by increasing density of stub length, which will be good as in later batches I intend to make a tip for stock guns and heavily modded guns as this won't incur extra mold costs.
I've also made the shape a dome, and ensured I'm not breaking any patents, I shouldn't get sued.

The picture shows enough detail, and with the blue foam too. Awesome.
I really have to start making my own darts.

So why did we go with black? Surely a brighter colour like red would be easier to see in the grass, and red/blue looks better than black/blue imo.

Firstly, hope all is well on the home front inform3r
Just wanted to check if one of your sample allocations was still directed my way? No stress if it's not the case, just be nice to have something tangible to present to the guys

Certainly will thanks mate I know at least I'm pretty excited about this, especially when we've just had a war that we'd purchased just shy of 1800 Streamlines for and about 250+ of them went "walkabout"...

How come you went with black, even though the poll said red, and thats a-lot easier to find in the grass, or in the dark.
Oh and it also looks better.

Umm.....
Try finding a 'red nub' in a patch of grass. It doesn't really matter since it'll be attached to blue foam which sticks out of grass like sore thumbs.

But red and blue does look sexy, like look at the snap caps for example, they looked GOOD with the red caps.littlebro05 wrote:abowden wrote:How come you went with black, even though the poll said red, and thats a-lot easier to find in the grass, or in the dark.

Re: Project Silicone
Well, it might have been that the silicon used doesn't have an option for red, the factory doesn't do red silicon, or those are just samples, the colour might be different to the sample.abowden wrote:How come you went with black, even though the poll said red, and thats a-lot easier to find in the grass, or in the dark.

They are most likely in production stage to make 25000 pieces.

Re: Project Silicone
For those of you who are wondering about the cost per dart of these, read the following:
I'm working from an order of 200 because that's my order, and it creates a nice even length of foam needed.
1meter of foam will make approx 14 cuts that are 7cm long.
Tips: 200@9.1c = $18.20
Foam: 15m@75c/m = $11.25
Glue = $4 ( Superglue will be good for these, I can get 5 tubes for $2, so I'm working on 10 tubes (2 packs of 5), just to be safe)
$18.20
$11.25
$ 4.00
-------------------------------------------
$33.25 for 200 fully made darts.
So 33.25/2 = $16.625 = $16.63 per 100 (practically half price compared to what nerf offers)
To break it down even further:
$16.63/100 = 16.6cents per dart, ready to use.
I added the glue just to show the complete cost, it will actually be marginally less that that, because you will have glue left over.

Exactly, the completed dart will weight approx. twice the weight of the current snap caps, which is plenty heavy for most cases.phuonguyen wrote:Psykka wrote:You forgot weights. I cant see these tips being that heavy.

1.8g...
How does this compare to the hot glue and 00 splitshot weights?
I would answer my own question, however I lack accurate scales.

Let's just say the dart can fire out of a Longshot with BT V2 with stock barrels EXTREMELY straight with NO FISHTAIL.
Psykka... If you're getting a sample you'll soon find out that these silicone tips are very good and durable. Not to mention reusable if the foam gets torn :).
Stingers weight approximately 1.5g and they shoot very straight too.

Oh wow! Got into work this morning with a nice little package sitting at the door
These tips are beautiful, Inform3r, you've really outdone yourself mate! Can't wait to get around to showing the rest of our W.A. crew (at least a bulk of them) and getting an order together. Even if no one else is interested you'll certainly have me up for at least 500 tips (initially)
*EDIT: The black is great; I hope you are sticking with it?
